AUGUSTA — Environmental officials are expecting unhealthy air quality conditions along the southern Maine coast.
The Maine Department of Environmental Protection says elevated ozone concentrations are expected to create unhealthy air for sensitive groups this afternoon and evening between Kittery and Georgetown. The unhealthy conditions are expected to spread up the coast Thursday, possibly as far east as Mount Desert Island or even to the Canadian border.
Officials say people in the affected areas are encouraged to reduce strenuous outdoor activities, close windows and circulate indoor air with a fan or air conditioner.
