PORTLAND — The Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland is putting up for sale the bishop’s Western Promenade home.
The Diocese has owned the three-story house at 199 Western Promenade for 80 years. According to records from the city of Portland, the home is assessed at $925,000 and pays $16,576 in taxes. The 6,970-square-foot house has six bedrooms and four bathrooms.
Bishop Richard Malone will move to a substantially smaller home in West Falmouth, according to a news release from the Diocese.
The Diocese said the purpose of the sale is to save on heating and maintenance costs, as well as taxes. The proceeds of the sale will cover the purchase and maintenance of the new house. An asking price has not been determined.
