Yes, it was hot. But being by the bay helped take the edge off, and besides, it was the Harpswell Festival — the definition of summertime fun.

There were giant puppets handcrafted by Harpswell residents, Scottish country dancers (belly dancers too), a bevy of bands (Motor Booty Affair was the evening headliner) and a midway chock-full of games.

If you didn’t have a chance to get out and enjoy Saturday’s festivities, the fun continues today — and gets even better. There will be a repeat of what made Saturday special, along with lobster boat races at 11 a.m.

“The viewing from on shore is just perfect, and gorgeous,” said Tom Allen, the festival’s executive director. “People just love bringing a lawn chair to sit on the grass and watch the races.”
