NORWAY — A retired Maine paving contractor is making a $10,000 donation to the town of Norway, which will use the money to help the elderly offset the cost of their property taxes.
M.L. “Jack” Gibson, former president of Commercial Paving and Recycling Co. in Portland, developed a charitable program to benefit towns after he sold his company in 2004. He had been in business 59 years.
In a letter to Norway Town Manager David Holt, Gibson said he has not forgotten the loyalty and trust from municipal officials and taxpayers.
Holt tells the Sun Journal he and other officials decided to use the money to help 10 elderly families reduce their property taxes by $1,000.
