AUBURN — A great blue heron that has lived for years along the Little Androscoggin River in Auburn is getting another shot at life.
Residents of the Barker Mill Arms retirement community in Auburn had been watching the bird each summer for years.
But for several weeks residents had noticed the bird wasn’t itself. On Wednesday, residents called Game Warden Rick Stone to report the bird had an apparent broken wing.
Stone captured the bird with a net the boxed it up for the trip to Avian Haven, a bird rehabilitation center in Freedom.
The Sun Journal is reporting that once the bird is healthy again it will be released.
