ORONO — Pushaun Brown scored two touchdowns as the University of Maine football team beat Bryant 28-13.

In the season opener today at Alfond Stadium, Brown ran for 146 yards on 26 carries to help the Black Bears, who took a 14-0 lead after the first quarter and led 21-0 at halftime.

Maine quarterback Warren Smith went 14 for 20 passing for 135 yards and gave Maine (1-0) a 14-0 lead with 6:06 left in the first on a 1-yard run. Trevor Coston also scored a touchdown for the Black Bears, on a 74-yard punt return in the second quarter.

Jordan Brown led Bryant (0-1) with 128 yards on 28 carries. He scored both of the Bulldogs’ fourth-quarter touchdowns.

Maine faces Pitt at 1 p.m. Saturday at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, Pa.
