STANDISH — Two people were rescued tonight after their canoe overturned in the Saco River at Steep Falls.

Standish Fire Chief Brent L. Libby said rescue personnel from his department as well as the town of Limington were notified around 5:30 p.m. that several individuals were in the river and needed help.

Firefighters trained in swift water rescue entered the river and rescued two people, who had been in the water for about 45 minutes. They were treated by Limington paramedics and released.
