YARMOUTH — North Yarmouth Academy won its second consecutive Class C state field hockey championship today, beating Winthrop 1-0 on a goal by sophomore Olivia Madore in the second round of the first set of penalty corners.
It was NYA’s third state championship in four years.
Neither team could generate any offense in regulation, then relied on great defensive play in the two overtime periods.
In the second round of penalty corners, NYA’s Kayla Rose got off a shot that Madore deflected in off the right post. Katie Millett then cleared Winthrop’s final chance, clinching the title.
