AUGUSTA  — Mainers and residents of Massachusetts are observing Patriot’s Day with a state holiday.

Monday’s holiday commemorates the battles of Lexington and Concord, which were fought near Boston in 1775. Maine state offices are closed due to the holiday. But taxpayers get a break.

Because the usual deadline April 15th fell on a Sunday and Patriots’ Day is the 16th, the state income tax filing deadline is Tuesday April 17th.
