RUMFORD — A bridge in Rumford Point is being identified as structurally deficient by federal highway officials and is a state priority for replacement.
The Maine Transportation Department is seeking $5.2 million in federal transportation funding to help replace the 57-year-old Martin Memorial Bridge. The total cost of the project is estimated at $9.3 million with over $3 million from state funds.
That endeavor will get help from U.S. Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, who is the senior Republican on the Senate Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee. Collins is scheduled to inspect the deteriorating bridge with state Transportation Commissioner Dave Bernhardt today.
Town officials will also join today’s inspection of the bridge, which crosses the Androscoggin River.
