SALEM, N.H. — Police in Salem, N.H., say a standoff with a man at his home ended peacefully with the help of an old classmate.

Police were called to the home Thursday afternoon They believed the man, identified as 37-year-old Michael Green, was wielding a knife. His mother also was in the house.

The Eagle-Tribune reports police said Chad Clark was driving home when he heard about the standoff and recognized Green’s name.

Clark is a school resource officer at Salem High School. He and Green went to high school together.

Clark drove to the scene and helped police negotiate with Green. Police said the fact that the two men knew each other from years ago helped lead to a peaceful resolution.

Green faces criminal mischief and bail violation charges.
