KENNEBUNKPORT — HBO’s new documentary on President George H.W. Bush is having its premiere on the Maine coast, which plays a prominent role in the life of the nation’s 41st president.
The premiere of “41” was set for this evening on Bush’s 88th birthday on the grounds of St. Ann’s Church in Kennebunkport, near the Bush family’s summer home.
Bush has spent at least part of every summer since childhood in Kennebunkport, except when he served as a naval aviator during World War II.
Filmmaker Jeffrey Roth featured the rocky coast prominently in the documentary, which airs on HBO on Thursday. Bush was a fan of Roth’s previous film about astronauts, “The Wonder of It All.” The film was produced by Hollywood film executive Jerry Weintraub, a Bush family friend.
