PORTLAND — The city will hold off closing Munjoy Hill to traffic until 5:30 p.m. today to accommodate residents who are working, while also clearing streets of traffic for those attending tonight’s rain-delayed fireworks display.
Munjoy Hill was closed to traffic at 4 p.m. Wednesday and city officials initially said the same timetable would be followed today.
METRO bus runs to the East End will continue until 7 p.m. and the bike valet services which had been offered Thursday are not being provided tonight.
The city has also canceled athletic events for Payson Park, the Eastern Prom athletic fields and events at the East End Community Center to avoid conflicts with those going to the fireworks.
Tonight’s Stars and Stripes Spectacular will include a Patriotic Pops concert, scheduled to start at 7:40 p.m., and a fireworks display scheduled for 9:20 p.m.
The event was originally scheduled for the Independence Day holiday on Wednesday, but was postponed after a strong thunderstorm hit the area as the concert was about to start.
