BALTIMORE – Chris Davis hit his 30th home run, rookie Manny Machado lined a go-ahead shot in the seventh inning and the Baltimore Orioles climbed into a tie atop the AL East by defeating the Boston Red Sox 4-3 Saturday night.
After finishing in the division cellar in each of the previous four seasons, Baltimore (91-67) is now in first place with the New York Yankees. Both teams have four games left.

The Yankees lost to Toronto before this game started, so the Orioles knew they would earn a share of the lead with a win. Baltimore went ahead 3-0 in the fourth, then let Boston pull even before Machado homered a liner into the second row of the left-field seats off Felix Doubront (11-10).
BLUE JAYS 3, YANKEES 2: Adeiny Hechavarria doubled home the tiebreaking run in the sixth inning as Toronto won at home, dropping New York to a tie for first in the AL East.
TIGERS 6, TWINS 4: Miguel Cabrera hit a three-run homer to move into at least a tie for the lead in all three triple crown categories and Justin Verlander struck out eight in seven innings to help the Tigers win at Minneapolis.
Verlander (17-8) allowed four hits and one unearned run to drop his ERA to 2.64 for the Tigers, who moved two games ahead of the White Sox in the division.
ATHLETICS 7, MARINERS 4: Josh Donaldson hit a tying two-run home run in the ninth inning, Brandon Moss hit a game-ending three-run homer in the 10th and Oakland gained ground on the first-place Rangers with a stunning win at home.
The A’s are 2½ games back from Texas in the division and 2½ ahead of the Los Angeles Angels for the final wild card.
RAYS 10, WHITE SOX 4: Matt Moore pitched one-hit ball into the sixth, Matt Joyce homered twice and Tampa Bay stayed three games behind in the chase for the second AL wild card with a win over the sliding White Sox at Chicago.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
BRAVES 2, METS 0: Mike Minor won his fifth straight decision as Atlanta beat visiting New York. Chipper Jones, playing his next-to-last regular-season game at Turner Field, was hitless in four at-bats.
NATIONALS 6, CARDINALS 4: Washington cut its magic number for winning the NL East to one with a win at St. Louis on Kurt Suzuki’s two-run double in the 10th inning.
The Nationals were forced to wait at least another day when second-place Atlanta won.
St. Louis’ magic number for clinching the second NL wild-card spot remained at three.
BREWERS 9, ASTROS 5: Marco Estrada struck out 11 in eight shutout innings and Corey Hart homered twice at Milwaukee.
NOTES
RAYS: Matt Moore’s fourth strikeout of the game in the fifth was his 175th of the season, setting the Rays’ rookie record. Scott Kazmir had 175 in 2005.
TIGERS: When Justin Verlander was pulled in the eighth, it was just the fourth time all season he’s been taken out in the middle of an inning.
YANKEES: Manager Joe Girardi said Mark Teixeira (left calf) played an Instructional League game in Florida, and remains on track to rejoin the Yankees next week.
