Cheverus High School, Portland: senior Cynthia Clarke of Windham has been named the recipient of the fourth Ahern scholarship. Leonard F. Ahern, a member of the Cheverus Class of 1940, bequeathed a $1 million restricted endowment gift which is awarded annually to a graduating senior. The $40,000 college scholarship is awarded in $10,000-per-year increments.
Westbrook High School: Junior Ian Murry has been awarded the Renssselaer Medal and scholarship from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y. The award recipient is selected by high school faculty and staff at 2,000 high schools in the country and includes a $15,000 scholarship for each of four years for students who enroll at the college.
National Merit Scholarship Program’s Commended Students have been named for area schools:
Bonny Eagle High School, Buxton: Samantha Cox and Connor Shields;
Cape Elizabeth High School: Nolan Chase, Elizabeth Coughlin, Caroline Gleason, Duncan Hanrahan, Zachary Hindal and Anna Brogan;
Falmouth High School: Christopher Coughlin, Shreyas Joshi and Isaac Merson;
Kennebunk High School: Joshua Behrens, Calvin Beneck and David Cavagnaro.
