From 1 to 2 p.m. in the Coastal Room at the YMCA, join environmental educator Tracey Hall in this entertaining investigation into the bird that was almost our national symbol. Limit of 30 attendees. Grand Canyon Tales

Join the Maine Outdoors Adventure Club for its monthly meeting, when its members will share stories of backpacking into the Grand Canyon. The meeting is at the Allen Avenue Unitarian Universalist Church. The program starts at 7 p.m.

Wednesday Walkers

10 a.m. in Boothbay

The Wednesday Walkers is an open group of hikers who meet each Wednesday at a different preserve in the midcoast Maine. Everyone is welcome on the Ovens Mouth East Preserve hike. Enjoy gorgeous views of the Back River and salt marshes. Registration is not required. The group will meet at the trailhead at the end of Dover Road. Call the Boothbay Region Land Trust, 633-4818.
