WINDHAM — A severed fiber optic cable that left some land lines in the Windham area unable to get a dial tone or connect to 911 has been repaired.
William Holmes, head of the Cumberland County Regional Communications Center, said Friday that about 100 people in the 892 and 894 exchanges were affected. The dispatch center asked that they use a cell phone, their own or a neighbor’s, to call 911 if there is an emergency.
It does not appear any major calls for service were affected by the outage, he said.
The line was apparently cut accidentally during construction by a communications company, according to a utility worker.
