By 5 p.m. Saturday, Central Maine Power Co. had restored power to all but 320 power customers who lost power during the storm and expected to have everyone reconnected by the end of the day.

In all, there were 18,420 outages reported during the two day storm. At the peak Saturday morning,  11,467 customers were without power, said John Carroll, CMP spokesman.

Carroll said that Maine was spared major outages because the snow was light and dry and did not snap tree limbs.

“As long as it doesn’t stick to trees we don’t have problems,” said Carroll.

He said the fact the ground is frozen also helped by keeping trees upright. He also credited advance preparation by CMP crews and a limb-cutting program along the power lines for the lack of widespread and prolonged outages.
