Shirley L. Curry will receive the title of minister of music at the 10 a.m. service at First Congregational Church, 301 Cottage Road, South Portland. Curry earned a bachelor of music degree at Boston University and has served as the church’s organist and director of the Meetinghouse Choir, Hilltop Ringers Bell Choir, and Children’s Choir since 1968. She was also the accompanist for Portland’s Choral Art Society from its beginning through 1999 and performed as a member of the percussion section of the Portland Symphony Orchestra for 10 years.

The Catholic Campaign for Human Development has awarded grants totaling $14,000 to four Maine organizations: Cultivating Community in Portland; the Center for African Heritage, Westbrook; Food and Medicine in Brewer; and My Brother’s Keeper, a mentor program for men in jail in Cumberland County, A special collection is held in November at parishes throughout the Diocese of Portland.
