Shelter offering temporary fee-free cat adoptions
The Coastal Humane Society is waiving fees for cat adoptions now through Aug. 4 as part of its summer Fun in the Sun adoption awareness promotion.
The special waives the adoption fee entirely for cats ages 1 and older and for rabbits.
The shelter is also asking for donations of canned cat food, paper plates and wood pellets (used for litter) to help support these cats.
The shelter, located at 30 Range Road in Brunswick, is open from noon to 6 p.m. daily, except for Wednesdays.

Medical center’s clinic expanding operating hours
Southern Maine Medical Center’s Walk-In Care center at PrimeCare Physicians office, 655 Main St., Route 1 and Ross Road, has expanded its hours to 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
The clinic offers non-emergency treatment for colds, sore throats, flu symptoms; strains and sprains; eye, ear and sinus infections; and cuts and abrasions.
No appointment is necessary.
X-ray and lab services are available on site.

Girl, 11, chosen to attend magazine’s ‘tween summit
Madison Morin, age 11, of Benton, is participating in the inaugural Discovery Girls Tween Summit this week in the San Francisco Bay area.
Morin was selected out of 8,000 applicants from across North America to attend the event and be featured in a future issue of “Discovery Girls” magazine.
She was one of only 36 finalists to be chosen for the honor and the sole Mainer in the group.
Morin was selected for her perspectives and attitude about issues facing today’s tween-age girls, as written in her responses to a 12-question summit application that demonstrated her leadership, compassion, determination and enthusiasm.
The summit brings together young readers from across the country to engage in open, solution-oriented discussions about challenges facing today’s tween girls.
Attendees also will participate in workshops and activities that explore topics including body image, bullying, technology and social skills.
