Carnival worker charged as fugitive from justice

A man wanted in connection with the stabbing and strangulation death of a Maine man has been captured while working at a carnival in Massachusetts.

The Sun Journal newspaper reported that 22-year-old Sebastian Moody was apprehended Thursday as the carnival was setting up in Beverly, Mass.

Moody appeared in a Massachusetts court Friday on a fugitive from justice charge and waived rendition to Maine.

Maine authorities say Moody is wanted on charges of hindering apprehension or prosecution in connection with the April killing of Romeo Parent of Greene.

Police say Parent was stabbed with a screwdriver and strangled with a wire by a man angry that he had been cooperating with police.

Two other men are facing charges in Parent’s death.

 

July Fourth shooting suspect apprehended

A man wanted in connection with the July Fourth shooting of a rookie New York City police officer has been captured in Maine.

Federal, Maine and New York law enforcement authorities apprehended Michael Faison in the parking lot of a McDonald’s restaurant in Auburn on Wednesday.

The Sun Journal newspaper reported that the 21-year-old Faison was being held at the Androscoggin County Jail on a fugitive charge, pending extradition to New York.

It could not be determined whether he has a lawyer.

New York Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly previously said Officer Jamil Sarwar was in Brooklyn late on the holiday responding to reports of a shooting at a housing project when he was shot in the leg. He was hospitalized and survived.

Former school bus driver convicted of sexual assault

A former school bus driver from Deer Isle was sentenced Friday to serve six years in prison for sexually assaulting a girl over several years when she was between 4 and 8 years old.

Larry Bunt was convicted in Hancock County Superior Court this week of multiple counts of gross sexual assault and unlawful sexual contact.

Prosecutors say the molestation occurred from 2000 to 2004.

The victim, now a teenager, came forward last year.

WABI-TV reported that the conviction was based partially on a recorded phone call between the teen and Bunt in which he said what he did was wrong.

Authorities have said the 53-year-old Bunt did not meet the victim through his job as a bus driver.

Race-prepared rally cars to compete on dirt roads

Rally cars have arrived in western Maine for an annual event featuring race-prepared cars zooming along unpaved roads.

The New England Forest Rally at Sunday River ski resort is the fifth race the RallyAmerica National Championship series. Racing was to be held Friday and continue on Saturday.
