AUBURN — The trial of a Lewiston man charged with stabbing his on-and-off girlfriend is coming to a close.
Jury deliberations are expected to start Tuesday following closing statements in the attempted murder trial of 27-year-old Cleveland Cruthirds.
The prosecution rested on Monday. The defense called three witnesses.
The Sun Journal eports that Cruthirds told the judge he will not testify.
Authorities say Cruthirds stabbed Naomi Swift 21 times in December 2011 because he was angry and jealous she had had contact with ex-boyfriends. Prosecutors say Swift spent six days in the hospital and suffered permanent nerve damage and deafness in one ear.
The defense said Cruthirds was at a local nightclub at the time of the stabbing and the police investigation was incompetent and incomplete.
