TURNER — Top-ranked Leavitt held fifth-seeded Cape Elizabeth scoreless through three quarters Friday night and rolled to a 21-9 victory in a Western Class C football semifinal.

The Hornets (9-0) will be home against Spruce Mountain (8-2) in the final next weekend.

Billy Bedard hit Nate Coombs with a 33-yard pass in the first quarter for the Hornets. Conor O’Malley broke away with a 78-yard run for the only touchdown of the second quarter. Bedard capped a third-quarter drive with a 3-yard run to give Leavitt a 21-0 lead.

The Capers (6-3) managed some pressure in the fourth quarter, forcing the Hornets to take a safety while trying to punt out of their own end zone. Noah Wolfinger scored the Cape touchdown on a 2-yard run.

SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 29, WELLS 20: Matt Vigue scored two first-quarter touchdowns and third-seeded Spruce Mountain (8-2) beat the second-seeded Warriors (6-3) in a Western Class C semifinal at Wells.

Vigue had runs of 4 and 26 yards. Spruce Mountain rushed for 2-point conversions after both scores to take a 16-point lead after one quarter.

The Phoenix made it 22-0 when Peter Theriault hit Deonte Ring with a 21-yard TD pass.

Wells scored before halftime on an 18-yard pass from Nate Booth to Ryan Marsh. The Warriors had two second-half TDs – a 50-yard pass to Jake Moody and a 6-yard run by Mike Curtis.

DIRIGO 22, WINTHROP/MONMOUTH 20: Heath Hersom picked up his own fumble and rushed 18 yards for a score with 1:27 left as the fourth-seeded Cougars (7-3) upset the top-seeded Ramblers (8-1) in a Western Class D semifinal at Winthrop.

CONY 41, MESSALONSKEE 15: Ben Lucas completed 20 of 34 passes for 301 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another score as second-seeded Cony (7-2) beat third-seeded Messalonskee (6-4) in an Eastern Class B semifinal at Augusta.

MATTANAWCOOK ACADEMY 34, MAINE CENTRAL INSTITUTE 6: Trysten Pelkey threw three touchdown passes, ran for a TD and returned an interception for a score as the No. 3 Lynx beat second-seeded MCI (7-2) in an Eastern Class D semifinal at Pittsfield.
