L.L. Bean said it will give $1.6 million to nearly 200 community organizations involved in conservation and recreation, health and human services, education, and culture and the arts.
The gifts ranged from $500 to $25,000 to organizations that include the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, Preble Street community center and the Bangor Folk Festival.
“We are pleased to provide funding to so many worthy organizations,” said L.L. Bean Chairman Shawn Gorman. “These groups share the values and traditions of L.L.Bean, encouraging healthy outdoor living and addressing real human needs in our communities.”
In the last 10 years, L.L. Bean’s charitable giving program has provided close to $36 million in funding to nonprofit organizations.
In addition to the charitable giving program, L.L. Bean provides $200,000 in annual support to the Island Explorer propane bus system in Acadia National Park. The company said it gave an additional $350,000 to emergencies nationally and internationally, such as for victims of the Boston Marathon bombing, the Colorado floods, the Oklahoma tornadoes and the Philippine typhoon.
