NORRIDGEWOCK — A local man accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl remained in jail Tuesday morning.

Cameron Starkey, 21, is charged with Class A gross sexual assault. He was arrested Friday, according to court records filed in Skowhegan District Court.

Under questioning by police, Starkey confessed to having sexual intercourse with the girl in December, according to an affidavit by Somerset County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Jeremy Keal. The document stated that a complaint by the girl’s mother prompted an investigation.

Starkey is being held at Somerset County Jail on $5,000 cash bail or $25,000 in real estate. He is not allowed to have contact with the victim or with any girls under the age of 16.

He is scheduled to appear at 8:30 a.m. on May 21 in Skowhegan District Court.
