Pious Ali, a member of the Portland School Committee and a prominent interfaith leader, has been named Planetary Chaplain of the Year by Chaplaincy Institute of Maine. Ali is the youth and community engagement specialist at the Muskie School of the University of Southern Maine and is the founder and executive director of the Maine Interfaith Youth Alliance. He is the director and co-founder of the King Fellows, a Portland youth group. He is a native of Ghana, where he worked as a photojournalist for a variety of print publications, and is studying sociology at Southern Maine Community College.
