Tessa Cassidy, Brunswick junior: Placed fourth in Class A in 19:29 after winning Eastern Maine championship. Placed 73rd at New Englands.
Caroline Driscoll, Mt. Desert Island senior: Placed third in Class B in 19:41 after finishing second in Eastern Maine to lead MDI to a regional crown.
Maddy Doyle, Marshwood senior: Class A runner-up with second-fastest time of the day (19:12) among all classes. She was also second in Western Maine, leading the Mustangs to the regional title.
Izzy Evans, Greely freshman: Class B runner-up in 19:33 after placing fourth in Western Maine, giving the state champions a formidable 1-2 punch. Placed 70th in New England.
Anne Guadalupi, Cony sophomore: Eastern Maine runner-up who placed third in Class A in 19:18. Also won the KVAC championship.
Elizabeth Labun, Hampden Academy senior: Placed sixth in Class A in 19:34 after finishing third in Eastern Maine. Runner-up in KVAC meet.
Katherine Leckbee, Mt. Ararat freshman: Placed fifth in Class A with a time of 19:33 after finishing fourth in Eastern Maine.
Katherine Leggat-Barr, Greely sophomore: Class B state champion in 19:17, leading the Rangers to the state title. First Mainer in New England championships, 32nd overall.
Halee Phelps, Westbrook senior: After placing fifth in Western Maine, became Class A state champion with fastest time of the day (19:10) in all three classes.
Hannah Steelman, Orono sophomore: Class C state champion by more than half a minute in 19:16 to lead the Red Riots to the state title. Second Mainer in New England, 40th overall.
Coach of the Year
Ron Kelly, Scarborough: In his 43rd year as coach, Kelly led a team that hadn’t qualified for states since 2010 to the Class A title by four points over Western Maine champ Massabesic. “It was a matter of developing a fifth runner,” Kelly said. Junior Morgan McKeown joined the quartet of junior Laura Volan, sophomore Marisa Carbone and freshmen Bethany Sholl and Samantha Saraceno to lift the Red Storm to their fifth state championship overall and first since 2008.
