A quick hitting nor’easter will bring mostly snow to southern Maine through the afternoon and early evening with a moderate accumulation of snow.

As of 9AM, snow was breaking out across southern Maine and will become heavy quite quickly after it begins.
I expect roads to become hazardous and you will want to have completed your errands before noon to avoid the worst of the weather conditions.

This is a coastal storm and as such the heaviest snow will be at the coast to about 30 miles inland. There is some warm air associated with the storm and some sleet or freezing rain could mix in with the snow along the shoreline. This would cut down on accumulations slightly, but I don’t expect a lot of you to have this issue. The most likely areas to see mixing will be east of Rockland.

The snow ends from south to north between 8PM and 11PM this evening . This next map shows the radar prediction during this time, about 10 PM . At this point the snow has already ended in Portland and will be ending soon to the north.

This leaves plenty of time for road crews to clear things up before Sunday morning. If you have plans tomorrow the weather shouldn’t be a factor, but some events may be postponed tonight.

Tomorrow’s highs will be in the upper 20s and with the fresh coasting of snow and bright blue skies it will be an ideal day to take the cross country skis for a spin. Monday is another dry and cold day.

A weak storm will follow the jet stream south from Canada Monday night and Tuesday. There is some indication this storm will hit the ocean and explode into a major snowstorm. This scenario is going to have to be closely monitored this weekend as the potentials is there for a sizeable storm early next week.
