Windham has hired the chief in Bridgton to lead its police department.

The Windham Town Council voted unanimously Tuesday to appoint Kevin Schofield to replace Richard Lewsen, who’s retiring after 26 years as chief.

Schofield served for 21 years in the Topsham then Brunswick police departments, before retiring as a commander.

He was hired as chief in Bridgton in 2011.

Schofield has an associate’s degree in criminal justice, a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master of science degree in organizational leadership, as well as an executive certification from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy, according to a press release from the town.
