A summer 1948 Press Herald photograph depicts a horsedrawn Maine Dairy wagon delivering merchandise to the Sam Levy grocery store at the corner of Newbury and Hampshire streets. Though the store no longer exists, its building is still standing and can be seen in the Sept. 3, 2014, photograph of the same scene.

The Portland Room of the Portland Public Library is in the process of organizing and conserving the archival collection of original Portland Press Herald, Maine Sunday Telegram and Evening Express photographic negatives — a major collection that spans from 1937 to 2005.
