SANFORD — A brush fire late Wednesday afternoon in a wooded area of south Sanford burned about 6 acres, according to the Sanford Fire Department.

The fire was reported at 5:20 p.m. and was initially reported to have burned just over 2 acres, but the fire grew and required assistance from the Maine Forest Service.

The fire department said the wildfire, which was located off Marc Drive, was brought under control around 6 p.m. No homes were threatened by the fire.
