Portland police are investigating a robbery that occurred in the parking lot of the Hannaford at 787 Riverside St. on Wednesday night.

Police were called after two people who had been sitting in a car reported being robbed at gunpoint at 10:20 p.m.

The victims told police that two men using blue bandannas to cover the lower part of their faces approached the car. One of them pulled a handgun and demanded money. The victims handed over an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.

The robbers then fled toward Forest Avenue.

The man wielding the gun was described as a 5-foot-6-inch, chubby black man between 25 and 30 years old, with very short curly hair and wearing all dark clothing, police said.

The other man was described as slightly taller than 6 feet, black, and wearing a brown sweatshirt with a fur-lined hood pulled over his head, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 874-8584.
