People who enforce laws need to obey them. Someone needs to remind the Portland police officer who did not clean up after his German shepherd police dog outside the Portland Transportation Center at 12:15 p.m. on June 22.

Maybe he didn’t know that there were three of us watching from inside the terminal as he let his dog defecate in the well-manicured landscaping beside the front door. Instead of picking it up, he kicked dirt over it and walked away.

Both ticket agents behind the counter remarked that they would incur substantial fines if they let their dogs do the same. Maybe the Portland Police Department needs to provide bags for dog poop as part of its equipment for uniformed officers.
