Just a day after being named the Most Valuable Player of the Eastern League All-Star Game at Hadlock Field, Portland Sea Dogs shortstop Marco Hernandez has been promoted to Triple-A, the Pawtcucket Red Sox announced on Thursday.

Hernandez, 22, singled and scored in the first inning and then hit a two-run home run in the second inning of Wednesday’s All-Star game. He came into the game as the league’s leading hitter with a .326 average.

After the game, Sea Dogs manager Billy McMillon hinted that Hernandez may not be with the Double-A Sea Dogs much longer, saying, “I don’t know how long he’ll be with us, as well as he’s been playing.”

Hernandez came to the Red Sox in December, completing a trade with the Chicago Cubs. Chicago received pitcher Felix Doubront.

In another roster move announced by Pawtucket, infielder Reed Gragnani returned to the Sea Dogs from Triple-A.

The Sea Dogs are in Manchester, New Hampshire, for a four-game series that started Thursday. They return to Hadlock Field on Monday.
