A Saco man was arrested Monday on a charge of robbery after allegedly robbing the Community Pharmacy at 244 Main St. in Saco.

Saco police received a call at 3:19 p.m. Monday from an alarm company reporting that the pharmacy had just been robbed by a man who then fled.

Within minutes, police arrested William C. Day, 40, of Saco.

Pharmacy employees said that the robber jumped over the pharmacy counter and ordered the employees to hand over oxycodone. When the pharmacist handed over the drugs, the robber fled the store headed across Main Street toward Middle Street.

Officer Shawn Labrecque was flagged down by a witness who said the robber had fled down a back alley and climbed over a fence. Labrecque chased Day and eventually found him in a wooded area on School Street.

Day was taken into custody after a brief struggle. He was treated for his injuries at the scene before being taken to Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford.

Saco detectives recovered clothing and other items Day allegedly discarded as he fled.

Upon release from the hospital, Day was charged with Class B robbery, a felony. Bail was set at $50,000 and he remained in York County Jail in Alfred on Tuesday. He is scheduled to appear in York County Superior Court on Sept. 25.
