Gorham police say a 39-year-old Buxton woman was killed Wednesday morning after she lost control of her sport utility vehicle on Route 22.
Sgt. Daniel Young identified the victim as Jacee Johnston. Police said her 2004 Subaru Forester was going east on Route 22, which is County Road in Gorham, when she lost control on a soft shoulder of the road at 10:50 a.m.
Johnston overcorrected and left the road, causing the vehicle to roll over. Johnston, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown out of the vehicle.
Young said speed was not a factor in the accident. He said witnesses told police that the driver appeared to be distracted. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
