Portland police say the man who was stabbed near Franklin Towers on Monday night has been released from the hospital, while the person who stabbed him remains at large.

Police were called to the high-rise public housing complex for elderly and disabled residents to help a man who had been stabbed in the lower back. A trail of blood on the sidewalk on Cumberland Avenue led to the front entrance, and residents said there was blood on the floor inside the front entrance, but police could not say definitively where the stabbing occurred.

Witnesses said the victim collapsed outside the entrance and was treated there by rescue workers. A large pool of blood was near the entrance.

The victim provided police with some information but could not provide the name of his attacker.

Police are looking for a tall, black man with short black hair who was wearing a red shirt at the time of the stabbing. The suspect was seen leaving the vicinity of the 200-unit apartment building in a dark-colored sedan with two other people.

Police asked that anyone with information call 874-8533.
