After getting a tip from U.S. Customs and Border Protection in Jackman, Scarborough police have arrested a Florida man wanted on drug charges.

Members of Scarborough’s Special Enforcement Team arrested Ryan MacDonald, 36, early Wednesday as he was leaving 70 County Road. Police had received information from the federal agency Tuesday that MacDonald might be hiding at the Scarborough address.

According to the Osceola County, Florida, Sheriff’s Office, a warrant was issued for MacDonald on Oct. 14. Scarborough police said he was charged by Florida authorities with possession with intent to sell marijuana, possession with intent to deliver drugs and possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana. Maine authorities have charged him with being a fugitive from justice.

Police said the three active arrest warrants allowed for nationwide extradition, meaning regardless of where MacDonald was arrested, Florida would pay to have him transported back to that state to face charges. MacDonald is entitled to a hearing if he wants to fight Florida’s request to have him extradited back to that state or he can waive extradition and return willingly. He is being held at the Cumberland County Jail in Portland without bail.

A dispatcher for the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office said she could provide no more information about the warrant or the underlying offense and said nobody else was available because of the Veterans Day holiday.
