A Windham man accused of a drunken-driving motorcycle crash in Westbrook last year that killed his 35-year-old passenger has been indicted on a manslaughter charge.
Brenton L. Blais, 37, was driving the motorcycle with Jennifer Lavigne of South Portland on the back when he crashed on Pride Street in Westbrook around 10:35 p.m. on July 25, police said at the time.
Both Lavigne and Blais where transported to the Maine Medical Center after the crash. Lavigne was pronounced dead at the hospital. Blais was seriously injured and required surgery. Neither of them was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to Westbrook police.
The Cumberland County grand jury returned indictments against Blais this week on charges of manslaughter and driving under the influence of alcohol resulting in death.
A date has not been set for Blais to enter a plea to the charges.
Manslaughter is a Class A felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison. The operating under the influence charge is a Class B felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
