The Portland Sea Dogs picked up four more home games in April. The games are being switched from Hartford because the new baseball stadium there will not be ready for the start of the season.

The Eastern League announced Tuesday that the Hartford Yard Goats will play their first 17 scheduled home games on the road because of delays in construction of Dunkin’ Donuts Park. That includes four Sea Dogs games that will now be played at Hadlock Field April 22-24 (with a doubleheader on Saturday April 23).

“We are thrilled,” Sea Dogs general manager Geoff Iacuessa said in a press release, noting that the games come “on a weekend at the end of school vacation week.”

The Sea Dogs said they chose a Saturday doubleheader (single admission) instead of playing a game Thursday, which would have meant a marathon 11-day home stand.

The Yard Goats, who were previously the New Britain Rock Cats, had five home series moved from April 7 through May 8 – against Richmond, Harrisburg, Portland and two with New Hampshire.

According to the league press release, the “league will continue to monitor the situation and will make further decisions regarding the Hartford schedule as additional information becomes available regarding the availability of Dunkin’ Donuts Park.”

The Sea Dogs’ first scheduled games in Hartford are now June 3-6.
