Old-fashioned service, 11 a.m., in conjunction with Thomaston Baptist Church’s 200th anniversary this year. Featured will be music from that period and the first of its “History Moments,” a collection of short items from the church’s history. Founded in 1816, and originally known as the Second Baptist Church in Thomaston, the congregation has been meeting at its current location at the corner of Main and Green streets since 1837. Coming up

“Cooking Matters for Adults,” 2 to 4 p.m. starting Jan. 25 and continuing through Feb. 29. The classes are designed to help low-income adults learn to shop for and prepare nutritious meals on a limited budget. The classes are free and will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Parish, 268 Brown St., Westbrook. Instructors are Nicole Anderson, a nutrition educator, and James Tranchemontagne, a chef from the Frog & Turtle in Westbrook. Monsignor Marc B. Caron has been named professor of theology and a member of the Priestly Formation Faculty at St. John’s Seminary in Brighton, Massachusetts. Born in Lewiston, Caron attended St. Dominic’s Regional High School and graduated summa cum laude from Bowdoin College in Brunswick. He completed his clerical studies at Theological College of The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., earning a bachelor’s degree in sacred theology and later earned an advanced degree in sacred theology. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1989 by Bishop Amédée W. Proulx at Holy Cross Church in Lewiston. He will remain a priest for the Diocese of Portland, returning to the diocese after his five-year assignment at the seminary.

Allison O. Flaherty of Saco has been appointed settled pastor at the First Congregational Church of Buxton UCC. She most recently served as the interim pastor of the church, and in the same role at Buxton’s North Congregational Church. She earned a master’s of divinity from Andover Newton Theological School in Andover, Massachusetts, in 2014, and also attended Portland’s Bangor Theological Seminary.
