A Lewiston man convicted in 2012 of killing a 22-year-old woman in her bathtub has lost his bid for a new trial.
The Sun Journal reported that the Maine Supreme Judicial Court on Tuesday upheld a 2014 ruling by an Androscoggin County Superior Court judge, denying 34-year-old Buddy Robinson a new trial.
Robinson was sentenced to 55 years in prison after he was convicted of the 2011 beating and drowning death of 22-year-old Christiana Fesmire, who lived downstairs from his apartment.
His attorney argued that Robinson should be granted a new trial because the prosecutor improperly influenced the jury by gesturing and mouthing answers behind the back of the defense during closing arguments.
The court ruled that the prosecutor’s conduct was sophomoric and unprofessional but didn’t affect the jury’s decision.
