There were significant delays on I-295 Tuesday morning as crews cleaned up after a plow truck hit a car in the breakdown lane.

The crash was reported between exits 4 and 5 southbound shortly before 8 a.m. Emergency crews were on the scene and traffic was reduced to one lane in the area.

Ted Talbot, spokesman for the Maine Department of Transportation, said the car was parked in the breakdown lane. There was minor damage to the truck and significant damage to the car. The plow driver was not injured, Talbot said.

“It sure is backing things up,” said Talbot, who drove past the accident on his way to work.

Further details were not immediately available.
