The people of Cape Elizabeth are being asked to approve $1.4 million to make garbage disposal even less convenient and less energy-efficient than it is now.

Instead of curbside pickup, which would reduce the greenhouse gases produced by thousands of individual households driving their garbage to the transfer station, the town wants us all to drive to a multi-point “garbage compactor” at the transfer station.

Neighboring towns have acknowledged their citizens’ sensitivities to the environment, while the Cape Elizabeth Town Council ignores this common-sense approach.

Curbside pickup is a less expensive, safer, more hygienic, convenient and ecologically sound alternative to the proposed $1.4 million downgrade.

Vote “no” to this complete waste of taxpayers’ hard-earned funds June 14.
