A Shapleigh man was killed Saturday night when he fell from a boat piloted by his twin brother and was run over, according to the Maine Warden Service.

Jeff Beattie, 31, was riding in the bow of a 17-foot motorboat on Mousam Lake in Shapleigh when he fell overboard and was run over by the vessel.

Beattie was pulled back aboard the boat and taken to shore, where emergency workers and others tried to revive him, the warden service said. He was taken to Southern Maine Health Care in Sanford and by helicopter to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he died from his injuries.

The two men were accompanied by their spouses and a friend when the accident occurred.

The warden service and York County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the accident. A blood sample was provided to investigators for drug and alcohol testing.
