A Waterville man injured in a motorcycle crash in Oakland around midnight Saturday has died, police said Tuesday.
Oakland police Sgt. Tracey Frost said the rider, Michael Klaiber, 33, died from apparent head injuries at a Lewiston hospital Monday night. Frost said excessive speed was the probable cause of the crash on Snow Pond Road.
Klaiber was found unconscious by the side of the road a couple of feet from his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Frost said a passer-by saw the motorcycle off the road and went to investigate.
Klaiber was taken by Delta Ambulance to the MaineGeneral Medical Center’s Thayer Center for Health in Waterville and later was transferred to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where he died, according to Frost.
Frost didn’t immediately know whether Klaiber was wearing a helmet. No other vehicle was involved.
