Donald Trump is right: Our elections are rigged.

Election Day arrives, and Hillary Clinton wins the popular vote, but Trump wins the Electoral College and the presidency. This is the fifth time such a discrepancy has happened in U.S. history.

I challenge Mr. Trump to follow up on his statement that the system is rigged by encouraging Congress to begin the process of abolishing the Electoral College. It is disenfranchising American citizens.

Many Democrats in red states and Republicans in blue states probably don’t bother to vote, figuring their votes won’t count, and they are right. Some are trying to escape the system by trading votes over state lines.

The system is rigged against voters. Now, Trump is in a position to do something about it.

“The Electoral College is a disaster for a democracy,” he said in 2012. I agree.
