n Chuck Brawn joined The New England Real Estate Co. in Camden. Brawn was the top producing salesperson for Jaret & Cohn in 2011. He also will be the co-listing agent for The Homes at Ducktrap Retreat, an 18-home condominium community.
n Trent Prater joined Macpage LLC as a staff accountant.
Prater, of Portland, previously worked in the customer service department for personal lines insurance at a local insurance company.
n Amy Sylvester was hired as a communications and marketing assistant at Mid-Maine Chamber.
Sylvester, a 2011 graduate of the University of Maine NEW Leadership Institute, is a member of the greater Waterville area's young professionals group and KV Connect. She also sits on the Kennebec Valley Humane Society's board of directors.
n John Shoos was hired as executive director of the Sam L. Cohen Foundation.
Shoos is currently vice president for public policy and advocacy at United Way of Greater Portland. He has held various positions at the United Way during his 26-year career.
n Mary Chris Semrow was hired as a consultant to families for Specialized Housing Inc., an agency that provides supported housing for adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities through home ownership.
It has been supporting adults for more than 30 years in Massachusetts and in Maine.
n Tim Dean, Dilip Chakravarty and Terry Scalia were hired to the work force at Clyde Bergemann Auburn.
Dean and Chakravarty were hired as project engineers. Dean is a licensed professional engineer with extensive design and management experience.
Chakravarty is also a licensed professional engineer with more than 12 years experience in systems engineering and integration at Bath Iron Works.
Scalia joined the firm as a designer-drafter. She has experience working for Bath Iron Works and Modern Woodcrafts in Lewiston.
n Amelia Kurtz joined the wealth management group of Bangor Savings Bank as vice president and financial planning officer. Kurtz has worked in the financial services industry since 1993.
n Benjamin Lord joined Albin, Randall & Bennett, a certified public accounting firm in Portland, as a manager.
Lord, of Gorham, is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Construction Industry Financial Professional. He will practice primarily with the firm's construction group.
Lord was previously a manager at Berry Dunn.
n Annette Lease, vice president of Wealth Management at Bangor Savings Bank, was promoted to senior financial planning officer.
Lease, of Bangor, has more than a decade of financial planning and wealth management experience.
n Dewey Martin was elected president and Casey Leonard was elected a governor of the Maine Society of CPAs' Board of Governors.
Martin is director of Husson University's School of Accounting.
Leonard is a principal at Runyon Kersteen Ouellette.
John Connolly, Kyla Harrison and Barbara McGuan were elected governors. Connolly is the owner of Connolly Financial Services. Harrison is the senior accountant for the University of Maine Foundation. McGuan is a principal at Berry Dunn.
n John Brockway of Westbrook, a driver for Walmart Private Fleet, was one of four drivers selected to join the company's Road Team. Brockway works out of the Walmart Distribution Center and Transportation Office in Lewiston. He has driven for Walmart since 2002, logging more than 1.1 million miles.
n Craig DeForest, of Portland, joined the board of directors at Mad Horse Theatre Company.
DeForest is currently the program director for Maine Campus Compact, a nonprofit in Lewiston.
Andrew Greeley, of South Portland, also joined the board.
Greeley manages the project management team at Martin's Point Health Care in Portland.
n Karen MacDonald joined the board of directors for the Genesis Community Loan Fund.
MacDonald is the executive director of Port Resources. She has more than 20 years of experience working with specialized housing programs.
n The Cromwell Center for Disabilities Awareness added Len Gulino and John Hall?o its board of directors.
Gulino is counsel with the law firm of Bernstein Shur. Hall?s the president and chief executive officer of Cate Street Capital.
• The construction firm Reed & Reed has earned the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program Award for the Sewall's Bridge project in York.
• Two Salty Dogs Pet Outfitters in Boothbay Harbor was voted Maine's Best Pet Store by a Downeast Dog News readers' poll.
The store raises funds for local animal shelters with initiatives such as "Deb's Used Tennis Balls." The store also has adopted a pet-friendly hiking trail managed by the Boothbay Region Land Trust.
• Republic Jewelry on Center Street in Auburn was recognized with the Challenge Coin by the Auburn Police Department.
The coin, presented to owner Dan Cunliffe II, was given in recognition of Republic's efforts to help reduce property crime.
• The Greater Portland Convention + Visitors Bureau presented the following awards during its 31st annual meeting in April.
The Casco Bay Award was presented to the Portland Museum of Art; Member of the Year Award, the Maine Mall; the Lighthouse Leadership Award, Portland Sea Dogs; and Bring Yours Home Award, Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance.
• Jeffrey Morris, a certified professional photographer for the Pierce Studio in Brunswick, won numerous print awards at the Maine Professional Photographers Association convention held last month
His image, A Scrap of History, of an old railroad locomotive, earned him the Certified Professional Photographer Award.
He also received six other print awards for family portraits, high school senior portraits, and several other images of local interest including a Maine State Music Theatre portrait.
• Oak Street Lofts, a LEED Platinum-certified affordable housing community in Portland developed and owned by Avesta Housing, won the 19th Annual Charles L. Edson Tax Credit Excellence Award in the category of green housing.
The building's 37 apartments are 40 percent more energy efficient than the typical apartment in a multi-family building.
• Atayne was recently named a "Best for the World" company for creating the most overall positive social and environmental impact.
Atayne is the only company in Maine and one of only four in New England to be recognized in the 2013 "Best for the World" list.
• SeniorsPlus, the aging and disability resource center for Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties, was an exemplary award recipient in the category of Outstanding Non-Profit Volunteer Program at this year's annual Governor's Awards for Service and Volunteerism held on April 24, 2013.
• Lydia H. Atwood, a senior business valuation analyst at BerryDunn, earned the Certified Valuation Analyst designation. Atwood has more than 20 years of experience in financial, human resource and operational management.
• Dr. David S. Palmer, a longtime local dentist, is retiring in June. All patient records will be transferred to his longtime friend and colleague, Dr. Robert DeRice of 12 Sanborn St. in Portland.
• Glenn Almlov, safety and environmental manager at Sabre Yachts, is retiring after 40 years at Sabre.
Almlov, of Bridgton, became an assembly associate in 1973, building the Sabre 28 and Sabre 34 sailboats. Soon after, he was transferred to the wood shop and became a part of the product development team. In 1992, he became a supervisor of the wood shop and product development. His position evolved into safety and environmental manager.
• Beyond the Sea, which has been located in downtown Belfast for the past six years, has relocated to Lincolnville Beach and is open for business.
• Briggs Advertising in Bath was hired by the Massachusetts Library System to craft a new brand and communications plan. Briggs is a brand development and marketing communications firm.
