(Continued from page 1)
But I've been spending most of my time with the Cabernet Franc ($20). Yeah, a sparkling red, with exactly the amount of sweetness I want in a wine. You, Still Wine, are smart, competent, interesting, brave, but I think what in our monogamous relationship I've most missed is that sweetness, that kindness, that generosity. We used to share that; now we're all dry, businesslike.
The Terres Blanches Cab Franc's sweetness is background, while up front are everything you and I both love about this grape: the violets and other floral aspects, the peppery pep. As this wine and I have spent more time together, I've found mulling spices and toasted nuts, red berries and a fascinating salty, earthy tang too.
I brought her to Thanksgiving, and I'm going to bring her to a few other parties later this month. I don't know, it may be too early to say, but ... I think one day I might marry her. I'm old enough, I've worked hard enough in my life, and I just deserve this much pure pleasure.
Still Wine, you're still the love of my life. You showed me how to love, and you showed me the world. But now there's a whole world to love, and ... look, we'll always be the best of friends...
