Food and art in a holiday happening
CELEBRATE THE SEASON by trying a traditional bouche de noel, a sponge cake yule log decorated with meringue mushrooms, at a reception kicking off a holiday art show featuring 15 Maine artists. There will also be chocolate truffles from Dean's Sweets and artisan chocolates and hard candies from Doral International, an Italian importer, for sampling and for sale. Oh yes, there will be art for sale too, ranging from $75 to $500.

Whole Foods serves fun for all
YOU COULD SPEND the whole day at Whole Foods on Saturday and not get bored. From 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., kids can decorate gingerbread cookies and get their face painted in the cafe. From 1 to 4 p.m., learn how to cook, carve and serve a standing rib roast. Make a cheese plate from 3 to 4 p.m. Top it all off with a holiday wine tasting from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
